There are several ways to get employment as a domestic cleaner including working part time or full time. You can join a cleaning agency or company that does contract cleaning for offices and businesses or you can post ads in your local vicinity and build up your own clients. The latter involves you becoming self employed which carries overheads but the pay is direct from the employer so you will probably end up with more in your pocket. Working for a cleaning company or agency will probably provide a more reliable source of work but be less lucrative. There are many cleaning jobs that you can apply for in hospitals, shops, local offices and with local companies. The hours of work are usually early morning or much later in the evening when the workers have gone home. Working this way you will have a contract of employment and fixed steady hours with perks such as sick and holiday pay. Cleaning jobs are never highly paid unless they are a specialist job requiring special staff with training. For most domestic cleaners, the pay is just above the national minimum wage. If you want more flexible hours and not the constraints of working for a cleaning agency then becoming a self employed cleaner is probably a better bet. Often, once you have succeeded in getting some cleaning work then word of mouth will lead you onto more cleaning jobs. Cleaners who succeed are generally reliable, clean, unobtrusive but polite and happy to be around. People need to trust their cleaner and know that the job will be done. Some cleaners also do the ironing, collect shopping or take out the rubbish and these extras often make the cleaner more sought after.
